5 Totally Legitimate Reasons to ReTie the Knot
Whether it’s a re commitment ceremony, a renewal of vows or as we like to call it, retying the knot, deciding to get married all over again may seem like something only celebrities or your grandparents do. We can tell you, a renewal of vows is much more than just a celebrity trend or a good-natured nod to 20 plus years of marriage. Here are five reasons you should renew your vows, and trust us, you won’t need more than these five reasons to retie the knot!
Because it’s Seriously Romantic as a Surprise.
A surprise vow renewal is hands-down one of the most romantic experiences we’ve been a part of. In fact, a planned surprise renewal of vows was one of on-site wedding planner, Jadeane Clarke’s, favorite moments!
“…I remember doing a renewal of vows with a groom who arranged it as a surprise to his wife who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We had her get all dressed up for a “family photo session”. She had no clue! It wasn’t until I handed her a bouquet and the music started playing, that she realized what was happening. She cried right through the entire ceremony; she was so happy!
There’s no better way to explain it; it’s beyond romantic!
Because Retying the Knot = Best. One Year. Anniversary. Ever!
Typically, renewals of vows are saved for the couples that have made it to landmark anniversaries like 10 years and above. We think making it to the one year mark is more than enough reason to celebrate. Think about it…marrying the man or woman of your dreams is wonderful, but adjusting to the brand new ups and downs of married life takes patience. After budgeting, moving, adjusting to habits and busy schedules, cooking schedules, cleaning schedules and the lot, the first year can be just a bit taxing. Go on and celebrate that first year, after all that you both deserve it!
Because it’s Your Chance to Have the Wedding You Always Wanted.
Some couples had a wedding, but not the wedding of their dreams. For some it may be because of a controlling relative or one of those everything-in-the-world-went-wrong kinds of days. For others, not having the perfect wedding may have been due to life changing events like an early military deployment that interrupted a wedding date or an unfortunate medical crisis. Perhaps it’s as simple as wanting the children you have had together now to witness what was a really special day for you a few years ago.Whatever the reason, every couple deserves to have the wedding of their dreams. When you Retie the Knot, you give yourself that chance. Your renewal can be as simple or as lavish as the wedding you didn’t get to have; it’s still your big day!
Because Matt Damon is doing it. And everyone loves Matt Damon!
Matt Damon, who wed his wife in 2005 in a small city hall ceremony, is renewing his vows in the destination wedding of a lifetime. Ok, ok we know peer pressure isn’t cool, but how awesome would it be to tell everyone you retied your knot in St. Lucia just like Matt Damon and his wife?! You can casually mention in any conversation how you totally decided to renew your vows with an intimate island escape to the lush island of St. Lucia. Then, when you have everyone’s attention, you talk about how you retied the knot at a luxurious and elegant resort and danced the night away around fire pits ablaze on the beach under a star spotted Caribbean sky; just like a celebrity!
Because You Just Want To!
You’re in love with your husband, you’re in love with your wife; bask in the love! The best time to renew your vows is when you’re good and ready to. Love knows no boundaries or time-frames. If you’re as in love now as you were 10 days ago, 10 weeks ago or 10 years ago, enjoy it and celebrate it. Life throws you tons of curve-balls so take the time to celebrate the love you have for spouse while you still can. The perfect time is now!
