Sure, every bridal shopping scene in every movie has made wedding dress shopping seem like a heart-warming moment where all your bridesmaids look on in admiration and your mom cries. However, if you’ve seen any episodes of “Say Yes to the Dress” you know that there will be many (MANY) opinions when the dresses start to come off the rack. Too many opinions can easily drive you crazy and make the entire process of finding a gown far more difficult than it needs to be. It will be easier on you (and the boutique’s sale clerk) if you keep your viewing party as intimate and closed as possible. Avoid unnecessary drama at every turn and whittle your party down to two or three people who you are comfortable with and positive will keep your best interest at heart.
Let your party chime in.
If this is your first wedding, naturally this will be your first wedding dress. Even if you’ve obsessed over that dress on page 36 of Brides magazine for months we suggest keeping an open mind. It is important to find the right dress and the right style for your body. This is where the value of keeping your wedding party small pays off! Listen to their opinions on your style and color. Your wedding dress consultant is also worthy ally. It’s her (or his) job to help brides find that dress that would be a knock-out on you! Stay open to suggestions and comments about different dresses; you will benefit greatly.
Don’t wear old underwear or go commando.

It’s a funny thing to have to mention, but you never know who may have to help you get in and out of a dress you try on. The last thing you want to be caught in is something you wouldn’t want to be caught dead in!
Bring a camera.
It may seem odd but hear us out. The camera is sometimes more honest than the mirror believe it or not. This way you’ll be able to see how your dress will come out in your wedding photos! You have a hair trial and a make-up trial; why not a wedding dress photo trial!
Avoid the rush.

We know you would like to think that you will be casually walking down town in a pre-wedding daze and …”BAM” the perfect wedding dress stands out to you in a complex array of halos and angels singing. Sometimes it doesn’t quite happen that way. Finding that perfect gown takes time! Don’t put so much pressure on yourself; take a day (or two) and dedicate it solely to bridal gown shopping. Try to schedule at least 3 appointments with bridal boutiques and a break for a light lunch (so you don’t get too crabby while dress shopping).
Remember, this is your big moment. Enjoy every second of it!
