All hail the thrify bride! Have you ever seen a pair of vintage or cute and snazzy buttons and thought to yourself, “These would make awesome earrings” ? Well think no more! We’re eager for one of our brides to try this easy DIY project (we spotted on fellowfellow.com) with a pair of Victorian themed buttons to wear on their wedding day. This crafty project also scores 100% with us on the sentimental value scale. How lovely would it be to take a pair of buttons from your mother’s or your grandmother’s old wedding gown and make them into earrings to wear on your wedding day?! We think you could consider this your “something old”.
What You’ll Need
– Buttons (at least 2 of each) with the holes at the back.
– Pincers
– Super Glue in Gel Form (less messy)
– Sand Paper (a small piece)
– Stud earring stems and clasps (You can try Amazon.com or your local craft store to find these.)
Instructions
Step 1: Using your pincers, cut the back off the buttons as close to the base as possible.
Step 2: Sand where you just cut to get it as smooth and flat as possible. This step makes the gluing process much easier.
Step 3: Position your button with the back facing up. Put a dab of super glue onto the middle of the back of the button, and place the earring stem down onto the glue. If the button is particularly large, you may want to position the stem closer to one edge of the button so they sit right when you wear them. Try not to touch the glue. If you have used too much glue, you can gently wipe the excess away with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol.
Step 4: Leave the earrings to dry overnight before wearing them, and check first to make sure they’re completely dry before putting them into your ears.
It’s as easy at that! Now you have vintage and totally chic earrings to complete your bridal look.
