1 Down, 7 to Go: Elizabeth Taylor's Wedding Gown Auctioned
Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most iconic women of her time. It’s no secret that the legendary actress and fashion icon was married a grand total of eight (yes, 8) times. That means 8 different wedding gowns; well 1 dress down, 7 left to go! Her first wedding gown, which she wore when she married hotelier Conrad Hilton Jr. in 1950, was sold yesterday for £ 121,875 (about $187,000). Can you imagine?!
While the person who won the bid was a mystery patron, the British auction house said the winning bid was double what they expected to receive. So, what did the phantom of the auction house walk away with when he or she won this legendary gown? We’ll show you!

Elizabeth Taylor’s first gown was given to her by couturier Helen Rose.It took a team of 15 people three months to make the intricately designed gown (less than Kate Middleton’s gown – you know, the duchess of Cambridge).

The dress features a built-in corset which allowed the dress to be tightly cinched at the waist – not that Liz needed it, with an alleged 21 inch waist.
While we would love to speculate on what the mystery auction winner will use the dress for (who bet’s Kim K will try to buy it for any weddings in her future), we still have to wonder if any of her other wedding dresses will be auctioned off?
What do you think? Would you wear a dress worn by an icon and now worth over $180k?
